Hathras Satsang Stampede: A stampede occurred during a religious gathering in Sikandrarao, which falls under Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday (02 July). Hundreds of people died in this while many others were injured. At present, information about the death of 116 people has come to light. Questions are being raised on the organizers regarding the accident. The police administration was not given the correct information about the crowd in the gathering.
Talking to ABP News, former DGP Vikram Singh said, “There is a huge lapse on the part of the local administration. Such a lapse has never been seen in a case like this before. The organizers had requested that countless people would come. What is this countless? Are they teaching philosophy? They should have told how many people are coming. Under this, they should have been given security arrangements. In which women police, home guards, police and all kinds of people would have been put on duty.”
Why did Vikram Singh raise questions?
He further said, “It was said that the sevadars will make arrangements inside but these sevadars ruined everything. In such cases, speaking orders are given which were not given. The expenses of the police force are recovered from them and that too was not given. Many cases are registered against this Maharaj ji. One is also of sexual exploitation. When verification is done, the criminal history is also checked. In such a situation, the administration should not have given permission for the event.”
Yashovardhan Azad also raised questions on the organizers
On the other hand, former IB Special Director Yashovardhan Azad said, “The biggest fault behind this accident is of those who organize the satsang. All these babas and their big ashrams. It is their complete responsibility to look after the arrangements inside and outside and the job of the police administration is to look after the traffic and other arrangements on the road. On receiving the news of the accident, the administration should reach the spot with full force. When Baba was leaving, the sevadars first let him go and then there was a stampede.”
